Drying TPU: check the grade, then protect the feed
Flexible filament needs grade-specific guidance and a feed path that the dryer supports.
Read the full TPU product name before selecting a drying programme. The material family doesn't tell you the complete drying instruction, and a dryer preset may not match your grade.
A maker-specific example
Prusa lists 60 °C for 4–6 hours for its TPU entry. Check that your exact product matches the current guidance before using it. Source: Prusa, checked 25 October 2026.
Check two kinds of compatibility
First check whether the dryer can deliver the filament maker's specified cycle. Then check whether the unit and feed path support printing with your flexible filament. Being able to dry a spool doesn't establish that it can feed through an automatic material system.
Use the drying table for linked maker rows. If your grade isn't covered, use the supplier's current technical sheet rather than substituting another shore hardness.
Plan what happens after drying
Have the storage bag or dry box ready before unloading the dryer. For a long print, consider a print-through arrangement only if the equipment makers permit it. Check that the reel can turn freely and that the filament route has no tight bends or snagging points.
Keep a useful record
Note the spool, drying cycle and print result. If the cycle doesn't help, return to the product's support guidance. Repeated heating without a diagnosis can waste time and risks overlooking a feed problem.
Read printing while drying before treating a drying setting as a continuous printing setting.
